WORCESTER—Clark University recently received generous gifts totaling $2 million from four esteemed Worcester foundations, the school announced.

These donations, provided by the George I. Alden Trust, the Ruth H. and Warren A. Ellsworth Foundation, the Stoddard Charitable Trust, and the Fletcher Foundation, are earmarked to enhance and energize the University’s new Center for Media Arts, Computing, and Design.

This center encompasses the Becker School of Design & Technology, the Department of Computer Science, and various programs within the Visual and Performing Arts department. The funds will be used to bolster the center’s cutting-edge infrastructure and academic offerings, including its renowned game design program.

Since its opening last summer, the Center has served as a hub for innovative learning, interdisciplinary research, and collaborative endeavors within the Clark community.

“Over the years, Clark has been the beneficiary of quite generous and longstanding support from our Worcester foundation partners,” Clark President David Fithian said in an announcement. “They have been vital in helping us provide our students and faculty with tools and opportunities for intensive education and exploration in fields that are pathways to emergent knowledge, robust careers, and positive impact in the world.

According to the announcement, by merging technological strengths with the heft of a Clark liberal arts education, the University is home to an academic experience that uniquely equips students to confront challenges on a global scale and embrace novel opportunities in the 21st-century economy.

“As cornerstones of the community, these trusts and foundations have exhibited an unceasing commitment to the people and the institutions that make Worcester a vibrant, forward-looking city,” continued Fithian in a statement.
