WORCESTER—This city’s throwing its first-ever Green Worcester Summit, themed “Building Resilience, Together,” hosted by the City of Worcester Department of Sustainability & Resilience on Saturday, May 11.

The event is dedicated to spotlighting actionable steps that can enhance the resilience and overall quality of life in the Worcester community.

Attendees have the opportunity to delve into various initiatives such as Miyawaki Forest pilots, CoolPockets, and rain garden case studies, among other nature-based solutions designed for residents, businesses, and institutions within the city.

Whether a concerned citizen or a climate enthusiast, the summit welcomes anyone interested in exploring and contributing to Worcester’s journey toward climate resilience.

Also, participants get a unique opportunity to actively contribute to Worcester’s sustainability and resilience efforts by planting one of the city’s first Miyawaki Forests in the Worcester Public Library Main Branch’s parking lot.

“We chose the theme of Building Resilience to address the challenges of extreme summer heat and urban flooding in our city and to share nature-based solutions and other tangible steps towards building a more resilient city,” said Chief Sustainability Officer John Odell in a press release. “From getting your hands dirty planting our first innovative Miyawaki Forest to attending presentations on programs and initiatives, this event offers a day of education, inspiration, and collaborative action.”

The Green Worcester Summit takes place from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Worcester Public Library, Main Branch, Salem Square.
