Holiday lights, crafts & live shows: 5 fun things this weekend

From candlelit tours to rock-opera fireworks, Worcester’s weekend lineup has something for every kind of holiday mood

Here are the Worcester Guardian’s five picks for things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. Step Into Christmas, 1800s-style: If your holiday spirit needs a little glow-up, Salisbury Mansion is flipping the switch Friday night with the return of its candlelit Home for the Holidays tours. From 5:30–7:30 p.m., wander through Worcester’s only historic house museum as docents from Preservation Worcester walk you through the Salisbury family’s three-generation story next door. Each room is dressed to the nines—parlor, library, drawing rooms and all—making this a warm, old-fashioned kickoff to the season. Tours take place every Friday through Jan. 2, 2026. Admission is free for members and $15 for everyone else; no reservations needed.
  2. Rock your stockings off at the DCU Center: Trans-Siberian Orchestra storms into Worcester on Saturday, Nov. 29, with The Ghosts of Christmas Eve – The Best of TSO and More, an arena-sized blast of rock, classical drama and holiday spectacle. Expect lasers, pyrotechnics, a light show that could guide Santa from space, and the kind of big-energy performance that’s made TSO a holiday ritual for millions. The show starts at 3 p.m. at the DCU Center—perfect timing to kick off the season with something louder than your relatives.
  3. Handcrafted holiday shopping: Skip the mall stampedes and wander into a cozier universe: the Worcester Center for Crafts’ annual Holiday Festival of Crafts. For one weekend only (Small Business Saturday weekend), the venue turns into a twinkly, evergreen-scented market packed with 50+ juried artisans offering handmade gifts for every budget. It’s indoors, it’s charming, it’s $5, and it runs all weekend—Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday until 4 p.m. at 25 Sagamore Road. Free parking included, stress not included.
  4. Crack open the holidays with a classic: Kick off the season in grand style as The Nutcracker twirls back onto the Hanover Theatre stage all Thanksgiving weekend. With lush sets by Broadway designers, a full live orchestra led by Jonathan McPhee, standout principal dancers from Dance Theatre of Harlem, and the Worcester Children’s Chorus, this beloved production delivers two hours of pure holiday magic. Multiple performances run Nov. 28–30 — a festive, family-friendly tradition that never stops sparkling.
  5. Friendsgiving off the charts, off the rails: Keep the holiday buzz going as the Nate Ramos Band brings its “Meet You at the End of the Tour” run to Off The Rails on Saturday, Nov. 29, for its third annual Friendsgiving show. The Auburn native returns home with a fast-rising Americana sound that’s already landed him opening slots for national acts and a New England Music Award nomination. Mentalist Jonas Cohen performs before and after the set, doors open at 7 p.m., and tickets are $15 in advance ($20 day-of).
