Leominster man indicted in Fitchburg overdose death

Eric Stone faces manslaughter and drug charges in connection with a fatal overdose in June 2024

WORCESTER—A Leominster man has been indicted on involuntary manslaughter and drug distribution charges in connection with a fatal overdose in Fitchburg last June, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

A Worcester County grand jury last week indicted Eric Stone, 39, on charges of involuntary manslaughter, distribution of fentanyl, and distribution of cocaine.

Stone was arrested by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office on Jan. 24 and arraigned in Fitchburg District Court, where a judge set bail at $25,000. He has remained in custody since his arrest.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, detectives responded to a Fitchburg home on June 20, 2024, after the unattended death of a 44-year-old man. Investigators determined that Stone had supplied the man with cocaine and fentanyl in the early hours of that morning.

The case now moves to Worcester Superior Court, where Stone is scheduled to be arraigned on April 7.
