According to a Worcester Police Department press release, officers were dispatched to the area of Grand Street at 1:18 a.m. after a report of gunshots.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim laying in front of a building with a gunshot wound, police say.
The officers rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police say.
The fatal shooting is the second in the city in a week and Worcester’s third homicide this year.
Last Saturday, Randy Armando Melandez Jr., 19, was shot and killed in a Worcester State University parking lot. The suspect, Kevin Rodriguez, faces charges of armed assault with intent to murder. Rodriguez waived an extradition hearing in New York City and is scheduled to appear in court this week.
