WORCESTER—A new cannabis dispensary is set to open in Worcester later this month, with city officials announcing a ribbon-cutting ceremony for The Corner Emporium at 40 Jackson St.
Vice Chairman Khrystian King and District 4 City Councilor Luis A. Ojeda announced the opening, scheduled for April 20 at 1:30 p.m., according to an announcement on Monday.
The Corner Emporium is described as a locally owned, minority-owned premium dispensary that aims to serve as a community wellness hub while offering affordable cannabis-based options.
“The Corner Emporium aims to serve as a wellness hub for the community, offering affordable cannabis-based options in a luxurious setting, without the luxury price tag,” the announcement stated.
According to the release, the business has been seven years in development, with owners preparing to unveil a renovated space at the Jackson Street location. The owners also said they are committed to promoting responsible consumption and providing educational resources for customers.
The Corner Emporium is also a recipient of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission’s Economic Empowerment Program certificate, which recognizes businesses committed to supporting communities disproportionately impacted by cannabis criminalization.
“The owners hope to support aspiring entrepreneurs and provide resources for individuals with marijuana-related criminal records, helping to build a more equitable cannabis industry,” the release stated.
City officials encouraged residents to attend the April 20 ribbon cutting to mark the opening of the new business.
“In recognition of the inequitable history of cannabis in our country, including the disproportionate criminalization of Black/Brown/Latino communities, and acknowledging that today’s legal cannabis industry remains overwhelmingly white-owned, The Corner Emporium is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming space proudly located in Worcester,” the announcement stated.
