NORTHBOROUGH—Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. on Wednesday recognized a team of Northborough firefighters for their swift response in rescuing a woman who became trapped in ice and mud while chasing her dog.
Northborough Fire Chief David Parenti and Firefighters Dante Brindisi, Ethan Ward, Ryan Snee, and Christopher Tetreault received the District Attorney’s Team Excellence and Merit (TEAM) Award for their actions in February.

“These first responders put their training to quick and effective use, helping this woman and her dog out of a precarious situation,” Early said in the announcement. “They literally trained for this the day before this save. That training, with an efficient response on the scene, allowed the firefighters to deliver a positive outcome for both this woman and her dog.”
On Feb. 27, firefighters responded within minutes to a 911 call from Carney Park, where a woman had become stuck in the ice while trying to rescue her dog. Firefighter Snee, wearing a rescue suit, reached her within three minutes and brought her safely back to shore, where Firefighter Tetreault provided medical evaluation.
Meanwhile, Firefighter Brindisi identified access points to rescue the dog, an Australian Shepherd named Sydney. Snee then reentered the water, retrieved the dog, and carried her to safety. By just after 11 a.m., the woman and her dog were safely reunited.
The rescue came just one day after the Northborough Fire Department had completed ice rescue training.
The TEAM Award, created by Early in 2019, honors public safety employees who go above and beyond the call of duty. The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office encourages nominations at 508-755-8601.
