QCC alum Joshua Duhamel joins college foundation board

The Worcester City Council chief of staff returns to his alma mater in a new role supporting scholarships, academic programs and student opportunities

Joshua Duhamel, chief of staff for the Worcester City Council and a Quinsigamond Community College graduate, has joined the QCC Foundation Board of Directors.

Duhamel, who began his college education at QCC before transferring to Worcester State University, brings a background in municipal government, legislative affairs and community engagement to the foundation, the organization said.

As city council chief of staff, Duhamel oversees operations, policy development, constituent services and outreach and serves as a liaison among city departments, elected officials and community organizations.

His appointment also brings an alumnus who built his career in Worcester-area public service back to the institution where his higher education began.

“QCC serves people at many different starting points: students beginning college, adults returning to school and neighbors preparing for a new career,” QCC Foundation President Jorgo Gushi said in the announcement. “What makes the College so important to Central Massachusetts is what happens next. Its alumni carry their education into our workplaces, neighborhoods and civic life. Joshua’s path from QCC to public service in Worcester reflects that lasting impact, and I’m glad he is bringing his experience back to the Foundation Board.”

After attending QCC, Duhamel earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Worcester State. His career has included work with the Massachusetts House of Representatives, first as an aide and later as director of constituent services, where his responsibilities included assisting constituents, working on legislative priorities and helping secure state funding for communities in the region.

Duhamel said his new role provides an opportunity to give back to the college that helped begin his academic and professional career.

“QCC provided an important foundation for my education and career,” Duhamel said in the announcement. “I am honored to serve on the Foundation Board and support the College’s mission of creating opportunities for students from all backgrounds. As Worcester continues to grow and evolve, it is important that institutions like QCC remain accessible, responsive and connected to the communities they serve.”

The QCC Foundation is an independent nonprofit that raises money and develops partnerships to support the college. Its work includes funding student scholarships, academic and workforce programs and other opportunities for students and faculty.

The foundation’s board provides leadership, advocacy and philanthropic support for that work.
