WORCESTER—WinnCompanies has secured $35 million in financing from Rockland Trust for a significant affordable housing project in Worcester’s Lincoln Square, it announced on Wednesday.
The development, called The Residences at Lincoln Square, transforms the historic Worcester Boys Club, adding a newly constructed residential building to create affordable housing for seniors and disabled residents.
The project features 80 affordable rental units for seniors aged 55 and older, with 16 apartments located within the historic Boys Club building and 64 units in the newly built structure next door. The two buildings will be connected by a single-story glass enclosure, and the development will include community spaces and wellness facilities for its residents.
Financing for the project includes contributions from several public and private sources, including the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, the City of Worcester, MassHousing, Massachusetts Housing Partnership, BlueHub, and MassDevelopment.
“We are thrilled to support this transformative project,” said Claudius Zorokong, vice president at Rockland Trust, in the announcement. “The Residences at Lincoln Square addresses the urgent need for affordable senior housing and promotes energy-efficient, environmentally conscious construction.”
WinnCompanies Executive Vice President Michael O’Brien added, “This development not only provides affordable housing for older residents but also offers easy access to public transportation, downtown businesses, medical facilities, and entertainment.”
Located in a highly walkable area with access to public transportation, planners say the idea is that The Residences at Lincoln Square connects residents to key bus routes, ensuring convenient access to job hubs, shopping, and essential services.
