WORCESTER—Rockland Trust Plaza, a public space adjacent to Polar Park, has been tapped be programmed by F.A.M. JAM! Event Group, Inc., which plans to hold at least 50 events this year.
The activation officially began on March 28, coinciding with the Worcester Red Sox’s Opening Day.
Located at 45 Green St., the 18,500-square-foot plaza is part of a larger redevelopment area that includes housing, retail, and office space. The site features a statue of Tobias Boland and Benjamin Wright, who were involved in the construction of the Blackstone Canal, as well as a water fountain dedicated to the canal’s history.
City Manager Eric Batista said in a statement that the goal is for the plaza to serve as a public gathering space with events, food trucks, and vendors.
F.A.M. JAM! Event Group, Inc. was selected as the operator following a city-issued Request for Interest. The group, led by founder Geoffrey Killebrew, has outlined a plan to use the plaza as part of what it calls the Worcester Renaissance Project, an initiative focused on cultural and economic development through arts, music, and entrepreneurship.
According to Killebrew, the project aims to support small businesses and historically underserved communities while providing a platform for vendors and performers.
The city has not released details on specific events beyond the planned programming launch in late March.
