WORCESTER— Established in June of 2024, Marfel Melendez launched her first business, Ila Verde, in an effort to fulfill her own quest for convenient but healthy meals in the city. The restaurant, located at 420 Main St. in Worcester, focuses on Caribbean inspired bowl-style food.
Melendez describes the restaurant as “fast-casual,” dedicated to offering fresh, healthier options for the community.
Why did you start this business? As a pescatarian, I found it challenging to find quick, healthy meals in the area.
Why did you choose Worcester, and this specific location in Worcester? My husband also operates a business here, and we recognized the community’s need for nutritious dining options.
What do you enjoy most about running your business? The privilege of providing healthier choices for the community.
Biggest challenge/struggle? Increasing foot traffic to the restaurant.
