WORCESTER—Saint Vincent Hospital honors its physicians on Thursday, March 28, in celebration of National Doctors’ Day, recognizing their service, expertise, and compassion, the hospital announced.

The 2024 theme “Wings & Stethoscopes: Healers of Hope” reflects the idea that doctors selflessly and tirelessly work to improve the health of American families through two powerful symbols. The first is the stethoscope hanging from the shoulders, and the second is the caduceus, two snakes winding around a winged staff in a nod to an ancient Greek leader known for healing and medicine.

National Doctors’ Day, observed on March 30 each year, recognizes and appreciates the pivotal role of doctors in maintaining and enhancing the health of our community.

“On behalf of our board, leadership and employees, I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the physicians at our hospital,” said Saint Vincent Hospital CEO Carolyn Jackson in a statement. “Within our walls, the dedication of these professionals is evident every day as they provide care across a spectrum of specialties. The expertise, compassion, and tireless effort of our physicians significantly impact our ability to deliver high-quality care.”

National Doctors’ Day was formally recognized on March 30, 1991, through a proclamation by President George Bush, coinciding with the anniversary of Dr. Crawford W. Long’s pioneering use of general anesthesia in surgery in 1842. This day serves as a significant occasion for healthcare institutions to honor and acknowledge the invaluable contributions of doctors to the well-being of individuals and communities alike.

“We invite our staff, patients, and the broader community to express their gratitude towards our physicians,” Jackson said in the press release. “Their unwavering dedication and service help ensure the well-being of patients across our entire network.”
