Third-party Senate candidate Joe Tache to hold Worcester town hall

Joe Tache, a Roxbury youth worker running against Sen. Ed Markey as a Party for Socialism and Liberation candidate, will host a public town hall Thursday night in Worcester

A third-party candidate challenging longtime Senator Ed Markey in this year’s Massachusetts Senate race is bringing his campaign to Worcester this week for a public town hall focused on ballot access, grassroots organizing and what organizers describe as an alternative to the state’s traditional two-party system.

Joe Tache, a Roxbury-based youth worker and HiSET teacher running with the Party for Socialism and Liberation, is scheduled to appear Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at WorcLab, 44 Portland St.

According to campaign organizers, Tache is currently the only third-party candidate seeking to challenge Markey on the November ballot.

The campaign said it recently collected more than 20,000 ballot access signatures from over 300 Massachusetts communities in roughly two weeks—more than double the number required to qualify—using volunteer canvassers rather than paid signature gatherers.

The Worcester event is being promoted as an open town hall and campaign discussion. Organizers said the public is invited to attend with advance registration.

Tache’s campaign has centered heavily on grassroots fundraising and organizing. According to campaign materials, the campaign has raised more than $111,000 with an average donation of $67.66 and no political action committee contributions.

The 30-year-old candidate works as a youth worker and HiSET teacher in Roxbury, according to campaign information.

Thursday’s event begins at 7 p.m. at WorcLab on Portland Street.
