WORCESTER — Nearly five months after a deadly shooting on Brookside Ave. took the lives of a man and a woman, police have arrested three men in connection with the crime.
According to the Worcester Police Department, the arrests follow what they described as an “intensive investigation” by detectives. The fatal shooting occurred on Nov. 21, 2024, when both victims were found shot and later died of their injuries.
The most recent arrest was made Monday, April 7, when 22-year-old Sheldon Thorpe of Fall River was located in Dorchester and taken into custody. Thorpe faces two counts of murder, along with charges of armed assault with intent to rob, unlawful possession of a rifle and ammunition, and carrying a rifle in the commission of a felony.
Earlier in the week, on April 3, 31-year-old Shaquille Watford of Weymouth was arrested in that town. He had outstanding warrants related to the Worcester case and other unrelated charges. Watford is expected to be arraigned on two counts of murder, and is also charged with armed assault with intent to rob and various firearms offenses.
A third suspect, 29-year-old Jeffrey Toney of Attleboro, was already in custody on separate charges. He now also faces two counts of murder, as well as charges related to robbery and firearm possession.
The arrests mark a major development in a case that has weighed heavily on the Brookside Ave. neighborhood and surrounding community.
Worcester Police credited the collaboration of multiple law enforcement agencies in apprehending the suspects, including departments in Weymouth, Fall River, and Boston, as well as the U.S. Marshals Office and several divisions of the Massachusetts State Police.
The investigation remains active.
