Visas revoked for 4 international students at WPI

Federal action affects students nationwide; WPI pledges support and ongoing monitoring

WORCESTER—Federal authorities have revoked the visas of four international students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, according to a message shared Wednesday by WPI President Grace Wang.

The college confirmed the revocations through SEVIS, the federal Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, which it monitors daily. The reasons for the visa actions were not disclosed.

“Similar actions in recent days have affected hundreds of international students across the country, including at multiple colleges and universities in Massachusetts,” Wang wrote in a letter to the WPI community.

WPI is providing direct support to the affected students, helping them secure legal representation and determine their academic path forward.

“We understand that international students may feel anxious about their visa status,” Wang noted. She said the university is reaching out to students, staff, and faculty through its International Student and Scholars Office and Talent & Inclusion department to ensure records are current and resources are available.

As part of its efforts, WPI has made available a politically neutral “Know Your Rights” seminar for international students.

“In this climate of uncertainty, I want to assure WPI’s international students, staff, and faculty: You are welcome here. You belong here. WPI is here to support you,” Wang wrote.

The university did not release the names, countries of origin, or academic details of the students involved.
