Winter parking ban begins Thursday morning

City garages to offer free parking as Worcester prepares for snowfall

WORCESTER A winter parking ban goes into effect in Worcester at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, in anticipation of an incoming snowstorm, city officials announced.

To accommodate residents, all municipal parking garages will be free of charge starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, until the ban is lifted. However, event rates still apply for special events, and the Major Taylor Garage will not be available for winter parking until after 8 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to use the following city garages:

During the parking ban, parking is prohibited on both sides of main arteries, emergency and bus routes, and downtown streets essential for traffic flow. On all other streets, parking is only permitted on the odd-numbered side, unless posted otherwise. Residents can check street-specific rules here.

Ticketing and towing will be enforced to ensure streets remain clear. Residents needing assistance locating a towed vehicle should contact Worcester 311 by dialing 3-1-1, emailing 311@worcesterma.gov, or visiting worcesterma.gov/311.

While trash and recycling services are expected to remain on schedule, city officials urge residents to limit travel during the storm and use caution on the roads. Motorists should allow extra travel time and keep a safe distance from plows and road treatment vehicles.

Sidewalk snow removal is required within 10 hours of the storm’s end, and residents who are able are encouraged to clear snow around fire hydrants and catch basins. Snow should not be shoveled into the street.
