A 15-year veteran of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office has been promoted to one of the agency’s senior leadership positions.
Sheriff Lew Evangelidis announced that Adam Richard of Charlton has been promoted to captain at the Worcester County Jail and House of Correction, where he will oversee correctional staff and the day-to-day operation of the county correctional facility.
Richard joined the Sheriff’s Office in 2011 and has steadily advanced through the agency’s ranks. He was promoted to sergeant in 2017 and lieutenant in 2021 before earning his latest promotion.
In his new role, Richard will supervise lieutenants, sergeants, correctional officers and civilian employees while overseeing the safe and orderly operation of the jail. His responsibilities also include maintaining the care, custody and control of the inmate population.
Beyond his supervisory duties, Richard serves on the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group, the agency’s tactical unit that responds to critical incidents inside the jail and assists with incidents outside the facility.
“At the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, promotions are earned through hard work, merit, and dedication to public safety,” Evangelidis said in the announcement. “Captain Richard has consistently demonstrated those qualities throughout his career. He represents the very best of our profession, and I know he will continue to strengthen our organization in this new role.”
Richard received the gold captain’s bars marking his promotion during a ceremony at the Sheriff’s Office.
The Worcester County Jail and House of Correction in West Boylston houses approximately 1,000 pretrial detainees and inmates serving sentences of up to 2½ years and employs more than 500 staff members.
