WORCESTER—A Worcester County Grand Jury has indicted a city man on a manslaughter charge in connection with a fatal June shooting on Southgate Street, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Enrique Antonio Canales-Martinez, 26, of Worcester, was arraigned Tuesday in Worcester Superior Court and ordered held on $100,000 cash bail. His next court date is set for Oct. 23.

Canales-Martinez is charged in the June 21 shooting death of Jason Mayhew, 26, of Worcester. Police found Mayhew on the sidewalk on Southgate Street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after, the DA’s office said.

Canales-Martinez was first arraigned June 23 in Worcester Central District Court on several charges, including armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious injury, assault and battery with a firearm, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. He has remained in custody since that arraignment.
