Worcester parking ban in effect; no trash pickup Monday

City enforces parking restrictions and offers free municipal garage parking

WORCESTER—The declared winter parking ban for the city went into effect at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, due to an anticipated snowstorm.

All municipal parking garages are free of charge to vehicles that entered after 5 a.m. Sunday and will remain so until the ban is lifted. Event rates apply for parking related to special events. Residents are encouraged to use the following municipal garages:

  • Federal Plaza Garage – 570 Main St.
  • Pearl & Elm Garage – 20 Pearl St.
  • Worcester Common Garage – 3 Eaton Place
  • Union Station Garage – 225 Franklin St.
  • Major Taylor Blvd Garage – 30 Major Taylor Blvd.

During the parking ban, vehicles are prohibited from parking on either side of main arteries, emergency and bus routes, and downtown streets critical for traffic flow. Parking is only allowed on the odd-numbered side of all other streets unless otherwise posted. Residents can check street-specific restrictions here.

Towing and ticketing are being enforced to ensure clear streets. Residents with questions can contact Worcester 311 by dialing 3-1-1, emailing 311@worcesterma.gov, or visiting worcesterma.gov/311. Staff are available from 3-10 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. Requests can also be submitted 24/7 through the 311 app and email. Residents seeking to locate a towed vehicle should contact Worcester 311.

Trash and recycling collection scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20, will not occur, resulting in a one-day delay for the rest of the week.

The city urges residents to limit travel during the storm and exercise caution when on the roads. Drivers should allow extra time for transit and stay clear of snow plows and road treatment vehicles. Residents are required to clear sidewalks abutting their properties of snow and ice within 10 hours of the storm’s end. Those who are able are asked to clear snow around fire hydrants and catch basins in their neighborhoods. Snow should not be shoveled into the street.
