WORCESTER — The Worcester Police Department is giving residents an opportunity to step inside the world of law enforcement — without joining the force.
Beginning Sept. 10, the department hosts its popular free, 11-week Civilian Academy aimed at giving community members a firsthand look at how WPD operates.
According to the department’s announcement, the program is designed to “bridge the gap between the police and the public, promoting trust and collaboration while fostering stronger partnerships.”
Participants get the real deal about patrol procedures, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, and specialized police units. The academy includes presentations, hands-on activities, and even the option to schedule a ride-along with officers.
But the academy is not a recruitment tool, WPD noted. “The academy is not intended to train participants to become police officers; instead, it offers an inside view of the department’s inner workings.”
