Worcester residents invited to design new election day stickers

City officials are launching a “create the vote” campaign, with an invite to residents to compete in designing a new election day sticker

The final designs will be posted on social media

WORCESTER— Worcester is brimming with creative talent, and officials are eager to harness this artistic spirit through an initiative designed to inspire greater engagement in the electoral process. And the idea is simple: help them design a new election sticker.

The Cultural Development Division and Election Commission announced the launch of the “Create the Vote” campaign on Monday, inviting residents to design Election Day stickers.

Worcester residents can submit their creative designs for those “I voted” stickers that they receive after casting ballots on Election Day, which falls on Tuesday, Nov. 5. All submissions must be received by Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024.

Finalist designs will be showcased on social media, where the public can vote for their favorites until Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024. The winning designs will be printed in multiple languages for both in-person and mail-in voters in Worcester. Each winning designer will receive a $300 prize.

“Following the tremendous success of our 2020 Create the Vote public campaign, which distributed over 55,000 stickers featuring designs by eight local artists, we are excited to collaborate with the Election Commission again on this creative voter engagement initiative,” said Assistant Cultural Development Officer Yaffa Fain in a statement.

Designers are encouraged to use the phrase “My vote counts” in their submissions, which can be in English or additional languages. The translations of the phrase into Worcester’s most widely spoken languages will be provided. The selected designs will be printed on circular stickers distributed to voters throughout the election season this fall.

With more than 16,000 Worcester residents having requested to vote by mail, all vote-by-mail materials for the November election must be mailed by early October.

Worcester residents and youth can submit up to three designs through an online application, which includes complete project details and criteria. For more information, visit: Create the Vote Campaign Application.
