WORCESTER—Jake Miller, 42, of Worcester, has been charged with and agreed to plead guilty to concealing $1.6 million in income from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Miller, who owns and operates Kostas Roofing, faces one count of tax evasion, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. A plea hearing has not yet been scheduled.
According to the charging documents, Miller conducted his roofing business under the alias “Paul Kostas” and allegedly deposited customer payments into his personal bank accounts between 2013 and 2021. During this time, Miller reportedly failed to file income tax returns despite earning at least $1.6 million, resulting in approximately $450,000 in evaded taxes.
The charge of tax evasion carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000 or twice the gross gain or loss, whichever is greater.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the IRS’s Criminal Investigation in Boston Tom Demeo, and Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Boston Division Ketty Larco-Ward. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David M. Holcomb of the Securities, Financial & Cyber Fraud Unit.
