Worcester Tech, All One reopen school credit union

Hands-on banking experience returns to the Worcester Technical High School campus after two-year hiatus

Mayor Joseph M. Petty

WORCESTER— Forget classroom hypotheticals. Worcester Technical High School students are learning real-world finance by helping run the school’s newly reopened credit union. The tech school marked the return of its on-campus credit union Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating a new partnership with All One Credit Union.

The credit union, which had been shuttered for the past two years, reopened in August before the school year began. Operated in collaboration with Leominster-based All One, the branch offers Worcester Tech students the chance to gain real-world financial and customer service experience while getting paid for their work.

According to the school’s announcement, students enrolled in the Finance, Marketing, and Business Management career technical education program work alongside All One staff members to operate the credit union, which is open to the public during the school year, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students in Worcester Tech’s Painting and Design career major also played a role, repainting the space before its relaunch.

Local leaders turned out for the ribbon-cutting, including Mayor Joseph M. Petty, Superintendent Brian E. Allen, Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce CEO Tim Murray, City Councilor Candy Mero-Carlson, and School Committee member Sue Mailman. They were joined by Worcester Tech Principal Drew Weymouth and All One executives, including President and CEO Barbara A. Mahoney, Senior Vice President Katie N. Najjar, and Assistant Vice President Brittany S. Haley.

The reopening restores a unique learning opportunity that combines financial literacy, workforce readiness, and community service, while also providing banking services to students, staff and the public.
