Worcester winter parking rules are coming

Seasonal ban begins Dec. 1 to ensure safe snow removal

WORCESTER—The city’s permanent winter parking ban takes effect on Dec. 1, 2024, and remain in place until April 30, 2025, for most streets, with an earlier end date of April 1 for residential streets.

The ban, designed to facilitate safe and effective snow removal, applies to emergency arteries, WRTA bus routes, and other traffic-critical streets. No parking is permitted on one or both sides of these streets between 2-6 a.m. or at any time when a snow emergency is declared.

In addition to the permanent ban, a Declared Winter Parking Ban a declared winter parking ban will be implemented on all other city streets whenever snow accumulation is forecasted. During declared bans, parking is allowed only on the odd-numbered side of streets unless signage specifies otherwise. Municipal parking garages open for free use during declared bans, with enforcement ending when the ban is lifted.

Officials emphasized the importance of compliance, noting that improperly parked vehicles are the largest hindrance to effective snow removal. Vehicles violating the parking bans risk ticketing and towing at the owner’s expense.
