WORCESTER—City officials are inviting residents and business owners to help shape its 2025-2030 Hazard Mitigation Plan by participating in a community survey and attending an upcoming informational meeting.
The survey, launched by the Emergency Communications & Management Department, is designed to gather feedback on natural hazard risks, areas most vulnerable to damage, and potential strategies to mitigate these threats.
According to the city’s press release, this input is vital for crafting an effective plan that minimizes damage and enhances preparedness for events such as floods, severe storms, and other natural disasters.
“A Hazard Mitigation Plan, approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and adopted by the city, allows the municipality to apply for pre- and post-disaster hazard mitigation grant funds,” the release states.
Residents can complete the survey online.
Additionally, the city will host a public meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m. at the Worcester Regional Transit Authority Maintenance and Operations Facility, 42 Quinsigamond Ave. The session provides an overview of the plan, solicit additional input, and feature food for attendees.
By engaging the community, Worcester aims to ensure that the updated plan reflects the city’s unique challenges and priorities.
