WORCESTER—Two men have been indicted on murder charges in connection with the March shooting deaths of a mother and her 11-year-old daughter, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr.
Dejan Belnavis, 27, and Karel Mangual, 28, both of Worcester, were indicted by a Worcester County Grand Jury last week. Each faces two counts of murder for the deaths of 27-year-old Chasity Nunez and her daughter, Zella Milton.
On March 5, Worcester police responded to reports of a shooting on Englewood Avenue, where they discovered Nunez and her daughter shot inside a parked vehicle. Both victims were transported to the hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
Mangual was arrested on March 7 and initially charged with armed assault to murder and carrying a firearm without a license. His charges were upgraded to murder on March 12, and he has remained in custody since his arrest.
Belnavis was apprehended in San Diego, CA, following a traffic stop on March 11. He was returned to Massachusetts and arraigned on two murder charges in Worcester Central District Court on March 29. He has also been held without bail.
The indictments move both cases to Worcester Superior Court, where Belnavis and Mangual are scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
