WORCESTER—With high temps squeezing the region this week, the city is again opening up cooling centers to help residents stay safe and hydrated during the heat wave.

These cooling centers are open at two locations on Wednesday, July 16, and Thursday, July 17. Bottled water is also available at both sites.

Cooling center hours and locations:

Wednesday, July 16

  • Worcester Public Library (Main Branch), 3 Salem Square | 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Worcester Senior Center, 128 Providence Street | 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thursday, July 17

  • Worcester Public Library (Main Branch), 3 Salem Square | 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Worcester Senior Center, 128 Providence Street | 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All cooling center locations are accessible via the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA), which continues to offer fare-free service. WRTA also provides curb-to-curb ADA transportation. For more information about bus routes or ADA travel options, residents can call 508-791-9782.

City officials urge residents to limit strenuous outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. “Prolonged exposure to high temperatures and humidity impacts the body’s natural cooling systems and can lead to elevated body temperature and risk of illness,” the city noted in its release.
