WORCESTER—Tackling litter is taking a digital turn in Worcester. The city launched a crowdsource map on Thursday, inviting residents to pinpoint locations for 150 to 200 new trash and recycling bins to be installed in 2025.
“Making Worcester a cleaner city is a top priority of the municipality’s new Strategic Plan,” said City Manager Eric D. Batista in the announcement. “This is a great opportunity for members of the public to offer input on locations they think are in need of trash and recycling bins to improve our city’s cleanliness.”
Residents can use the map to “drop a pin” at desired locations for bins. The map will remain open for input for about two months, after which the city will analyze the data to guide the placement of the new bins.
The initiative is one of the first steps in the city’s strategic plan objective to reduce street litter. “We encourage all residents to engage with the interactive map and select locations,” Batista added.
The map is now live on Worcester’s official website.
