WORCESTER—Saint Vincent Hospital has upgraded its security and emergency response systems, becoming one of the first hospitals in Massachusetts to comply with Laura’s Law, a state regulation enacted in 2021 to improve patient and staff safety. The law mandates enhanced lighting, signage, and 24-hour surveillance at emergency department access points.

In partnership with Axis Communications and Village Security, Saint Vincent replaced its outdated analog cameras with over 100 high-resolution Axis IP cameras. The upgrades also include emergency call boxes with video intercoms and assistive listening technology for individuals with hearing impairments.

“Saint Vincent Hospital is one of the first hospitals in Massachusetts to fully comply with Laura’s Law,” said Darrell Boling, market director of facilities and support services, in a statement. “With better cameras, enhanced signage, and video intercoms, we’re able to react faster to patient and staff emergencies, and in doing so, we save more lives.”

The hospital also implemented the AXIS License Plate Verifier, which recently assisted in providing critical evidence to law enforcement in a shooting investigation. Security staff now utilize AXIS Camera Station software to monitor activity in real time and respond to emergencies more effectively.

According to the announcement, the system, designed to meet both immediate safety needs and future scalability, ensures Saint Vincent Hospital remains a leader in patient and staff security measures.
