WORCESTER—A man wanted in connection with the double homicide on Main Street in Worcester was apprehended in New York City on Thursday, Aug. 29.
Police arrested William Rodriguez at approximately 12:40 p.m., bringing a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the deaths of two women found with multiple puncture wounds in a Worcester apartment.
The victims, identified by a relative as Sergia Acosta, 76, and her daughter Ana Maria Martinez, 58, were discovered by Worcester police on the afternoon of Aug. 24 after a 911 call reported an argument at the residence.
Authorities later found a note in Spanish at the suspect’s apartment ominously stating, “Women who make mistakes will receive what is coming.”
The suspect, who had previously served prison time for the 2004 stabbing death of his wife, was reportedly in a relationship with one of the victims, with tension escalating prior to the tragic incident.
WPD’s Interim Chief Paul Saucier expressed gratitude to the numerous agencies involved in the arrest, stating, “I would like to thank the men and women of the Worcester Police Department and all of our partners, including the USMS MA Fugitive Task Force, the USMS New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Massachusetts State Police VFAS, District Attorney Joseph Early’s office, the New York City Police Department, and New York Port Authority Police for their assistance in bringing this man to justice.”
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the homicides remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the murders.
