WORCESTER—Hundreds of veterans gathered recently at 69 Grove Str. for the annual Stand Down event, hosted by Veterans Inc., providing critical services and employment opportunities in one centralized location.

More than 150 public and private organizations participated, offering support ranging from housing and healthcare to legal aid, mental health services, and career assistance. The event is designed to help veterans navigate civilian life with practical tools and connections.

A major focus this year was employment, with numerous companies on site, including Orion Protective Services, Inc., a regional security firm operating across Massachusetts and Connecticut. Headquartered in East Windsor, CT, with offices in Springfield, MA, and Bridgeport, CT, Orion is known for its commitment to hiring veterans.

“Veterans know what it means to be responsible, dependable, and part of a team,” said Edward Ramsdell, president and CEO of Orion Protective Services. “They deserve careers where those strengths are valued and where they have a real sense of belonging,”

Orion representatives shared information about available positions, which include entry-level security roles as well as supervisory and leadership opportunities with room for advancement.

In addition to job support, veterans received free health screenings, legal consultations, benefits guidance, and hygiene supplies. Meals were also provided on-site.

Stand Down events are inspired by a military tradition of giving troops time to rest and regroup. In this civilian setting, they offer veterans a valuable day of support and access to resources. Hosted annually by Veterans Inc., the Worcester event remains a key resource for the local veteran community.
