Wicked good, hey: Worcester native finalist vying to become the new voice of Logan Airport

Max German, a Quinsigamond Community College graduate and trustee, beat out more than 5,000 applicants for a chance to welcome millions of travelers to Boston Logan International Airport. Now, the public gets to vote

When it comes to welcoming visitors to Massachusetts, Max German has the accent down. Especially the part where the letter R goes missing.

The Worcester native, who grew up in Shrewsbury and now lives in Dorchester, is one of eight finalists competing to become the next official voice of Boston Logan International Airport, a distinction that could have his voice greeting millions of travelers from around the world. And if his audition is any indication, he has no intention of disguising his New England roots.

“Welcome to Boston Logan International Airport, front door to the capital of heart, hustle and hometown pride,” German declares in his audition. Capital of “hahht,” that is.

He follows with another nod to local culture: “This city runs on iced coffee, raw ambition and unbeatable team spirit.”

German continues with a tribute to a city fueled by “iced coffee, raw ambition and unbeatable team spirit.” It’s a pitch that sounds right at home in a place where Dunkin’ is practically a food group and the letter R is more of a suggestion than a requirement. A graduate of Quinsigamond Community College and a member of its Board of Trustees, he was selected from more than 5,000 applicants for Massport’s “Voice of Logan” contest, according to an Oct. 27 announcement from the college.

The contest seeks a new voice for the airport’s public announcements, and the public now has a chance to help choose the winner.

For German, the experience has been something of a whirlwind.

“It’s been such a fun experience since becoming a finalist. I’ve been texting everybody I know,” German said in the college’s announcement.

He credits his distinctly Worcester-style New England accent to his mother and grandparents. Although he is representing his current Dorchester neighborhood in the competition, his ties to Central Massachusetts remain strong.

German was born in Worcester, raised in Shrewsbury and attended Quinsigamond Community College, where he found his academic footing after graduating from high school.

“QCC was so formative,” German said in the release. “I graduated high school and didn’t know where my path would lead, but I was able to figure it all out at QCC. I got my grades up, got involved, and haven’t looked back.”

His experience at QCC extended beyond the classroom. German participated in initiatives through the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, including an effort to establish a campus food pantry. What began as a closet stocked with nonperishable groceries has since developed into a larger resource center providing fresh produce, hygiene products and connections to housing and other community assistance.

After graduating from QCC, German transferred to Boston College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. He is now attending Boston College Law School. In 2025, he joined QCC’s Board of Trustees, returning to the institution that helped shape his educational and professional path.

Now, he is hoping to add a considerably more public role to his résumé.

The eight finalists are competing for the opportunity to become the voice heard by travelers moving through Logan, one of New England’s busiest transportation hubs. Public voting is underway, with audition videos available online.

And while German would welcome the chance to become the airport’s new voice, he already has a backup destination in mind. If Logan doesn’t come calling, he told QCC he would be happy to lend his voice to the college instead.

“I would welcome people to the college by saying, ‘QCC is the place that no matter who you are or where you are from, you will have an opportunity here for a better life.’”

For now, German’s next stop depends partly on the voters. And if a Worcester-born candidate winds up welcoming the world to Boston, travelers might want to listen closely. They’ll hear plenty of hometown pride.

Just don’t expect too many R’s.
