The Worcester Guardian announced a new partnership Thursday with Boston University’s Statehouse Program to expand state government coverage for Worcester residents.
The first story under the collaboration, “Can state funds cover gap left by federal food aid restrictions”, was published Thursday on the Guardian’s website.
Under the arrangement, Paisley Huang, a Boston University journalism student, will report from Beacon Hill on issues that affect Central Massachusetts. Her coverage will focus on state policy, legislative proposals and their impact on Worcester residents.
The Boston University Statehouse Program places student journalists inside the Massachusetts State House, where they produce original reporting for news outlets across the state. Students gain hands-on newsroom experience and publish stories on state politics, policy and government.
“This partnership strengthens our ability to bring Worcester readers closer to state-level decision making,” said Dave Nordman, lead consultant for The Worcester Guardian. “With BU’s strong Statehouse Program and Paisley contributing on the ground, we’ll deepen our coverage and better connect local needs to policy debates.”
The Guardian already partners with Worcester State University, where students contribute reporting, photography, social media, storytelling and other multimedia work.
