WORCESTER—Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences are expanding their academic partnership to create new degree pathways for students, the schools announced Thursday.
The initiative allows qualified undergraduates at either institution to transition more easily into graduate programs at the other, including WPI students entering MCPHS’s doctor of pharmacy program and MCPHS students pursuing graduate studies in WPI’s biomedical engineering programs.
The partnership formalizes a series of articulated programs designed to accelerate education, broaden career opportunities, and foster collaboration in healthcare, life sciences, and technology. “By creating clear, cross-institutional pathways that connect WPI’s strengths in biomedical engineering with MCPHS’s expertise in pharmacy and health sciences, we are preparing students to advance from rigorous undergraduate programs into specialized graduate study,” WPI President Grace Wang said in a press release. “These programs will produce highly skilled professionals ready to make real impact, from leading breakthrough medical research to developing innovative biotech and pharmaceutical solutions that improve health and fuel the growth of the life sciences economy.”
MCPHS President Richard Lessard added in the release, “Through this agreement, this partnership reflects the spirit of collaboration that defines Worcester’s higher education ecosystem. MCPHS is proud to strengthen our long-standing partnership with WPI, creating new opportunities for students to seamlessly advance their education and careers at the intersection of healthcare, life sciences, and technology.”
The agreement comes as interdisciplinary knowledge and collaboration become increasingly vital to addressing global challenges. Worcester has emerged as a regional hub for biotechnology, medical research, and advanced manufacturing, making the partnership particularly timely.
Degree pathways include clearly defined academic journeys, streamlined admissions processes, and personalized advising from faculty and admissions liaisons at both institutions. Students must meet GPA and course prerequisites, and final admissions decisions remain with each institution’s program.
The expansion reflects both schools’ mission to empower students, support workforce development in the region, and strengthen Worcester’s position as a center of academic and professional excellence.
