WORCESTER—Dozens of storefronts and landmarks in Worcester and Fitchburg turned green last week as part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest’s Paint the Town Green campaign, an effort to raise awareness about the impact of youth mentorship.

All this week, businesses and organizations lit up their buildings, decorated storefronts, and showcased green-themed displays to spark conversations about the need for mentors in the community.

“Mentorship changes lives, and right now, there are so many children in our region waiting for the guidance and support of a caring mentor,” Connie Askin, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest, said in a statement. “Paint the Town Green is a fun and visible way for our community to come together, spark conversations, and highlight what Big Brothers Big Sisters is all about.”

The organization said more than 100 local children are currently waiting to be matched with mentors. Nationally, one in three kids grows up without a mentor outside their family.

This was part of a nationwide campaign by Big Brothers Big Sisters, which celebrated its 60th year locally.
