WORCESTER—The EcoTarium in Worcester has been selected as one of six locations in North America to host an “America Connects” National Mural, the museum just announced.

The mural, created by Mural Mosaics, includes more than 1,900 tiles hand-painted by community members and individuals worldwide. The installation is part of a 2025 tour that includes stops in Santa Ana, California; Yelm, Washington; Binghamton, New York; and two Canadian cities, London and Chatham, Ontario.

“We will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the EcoTarium in 2025 with special events throughout the year and the unveiling of this new community mural,” said EcoTarium President and CEO Noreen Smith in a statement.

According to Smith, the mural reflects the connections between the Museum, Worcester, and communities around the world. “For two hundred years, Worcester residents have made significant contributions to our understanding of the natural world through scientific study and the arts,” she said.

Each tile in the mosaic represents the vision of its creator, contributing to a tapestry of unity, diversity, and shared experiences. EcoTarium Director of Education and Exhibits Katie Chappell added, “This mural will beautifully reflect the creativity, curiosity, and discovery that have defined the EcoTarium for two centuries.”

Community members can sponsor a tile for a local young person to participate in the mural. Details on sponsorships are available at ecotarium.org/ecotarium-200.

The mural will be unveiled on Feb. 21, 2025, as part of the EcoTarium’s bicentennial celebrations.
