WORCESTER—Several Worcester Public Schools principals are participating in a peer mentoring program aimed at supporting school leaders and strengthening recruitment and retention efforts across the district, according to a district announcement.
As part of the program, principals with several years of experience are paired with principals who have been in the role for fewer than two years. A meeting of the group was held Friday, Jan. 16, at Quinsigamond Elementary School.
The district described the initiative as part of a broader professional development strategy for school leaders. Principals are responsible for overseeing school operations, managing staff, engaging with families and community members, working with district leadership and ensuring effective teaching and learning within their buildings.
Friday’s meeting was led by Dr. Yeu Kue, assistant superintendent of personnel, equity and engagement, who previously served as a principal. According to the district, the group discussed strategies for holding open conversations with staff about the importance of attendance.
Participants also met with Chief Finance and Operations Officer Sara Consalvo to review the annual school budgeting process. District officials said the cohort meets throughout the year and addresses a range of topics related to school leadership.
The group includes principals from schools of varying sizes and grade levels, representing a cross section of the district.
